The question of the desirability of Chartered Engineers obtaining Eur. Ing.
designation was addressed.
Obtaining the designation is merely a matter of sending in the application
and paying the money. It appears that Britain is the country that most supports
the designation but the benefits seem rather tenuous as they do not help
the mobility of engineers within Europe.
The bulk of Brian's presentation was devoted to his work in Bangladesh as
part of a U.K. Aid Programme. Brian has been working with the Bangladeshi
Engineering Institutions to help them reorganise and to better equip themselves
to train engineers to handle the vast amount of engineering required as
that nation develops.
His presentation included slides and a commentary on the very sad social
and economic plight of that country.
A vote of thanks to Brian was given by Nigel Shrive who presented Brian
with a 'Gift of Sight' donation certificate which CPGCE always makes to
its speakers. This presentation was very appropriate given his involvement.with
Bangladesh
